In the automotive industry, the full-size pickup truck market niche is incredibly competitive. With dozens of available models from so many different manufacturers, it's a market that many new vehicle purchasers find difficult to analyze. Two of the biggest players in the full-size pickup truck market niche are RAM and Ford. Both manufacturers have developed iconic brands by continually engineering and marketing some of the best-selling and most versatile pickup trucks on Earth. Let's take a look at a couple of their most popular models and compare them head on, to get a better understanding of the full-size pickup truck market.

Ford F150 Performance

First, let's take a close look at the Ford F150. The Ford F150 is arguably the most well known pickup truck on the planet. Available in a wide selection of trimlines and price-points, there are commonalities betweenFord F150 models like its full length boxed frame rails that are supported by crossmembers welded in place. Under the hood, Ford's 5.4 liter, 24 valve, V-8 engine puts out 310 horse power and its six speed automatic transmission is fluid and responsive. When it comes to hauling, the Ford F150 can tow an impressive 11,300 pounds.

RAM 1500 Performance

The biggest competitor to the Ford F150 in the full-size pickup market is the RAM 1500. From a design standpoint, the RAM 1500 is a stunning truck. It's muscular appearance is balanced with refined chrome finishes and tasteful colour choices. With a 390 horse power Hemi engine under the hood, the RAM 1500 is one of the most powerful trucks you'll find. While it can't tow quite as much weight as the Ford F150, with a towing capacity of 8700 pounds, this is mostly due to the coil-spring rear suspension which limits towing capacity but ensures a much more comfortable ride than the Ford F150, and indeed, other competitors.
